John serves as the government and public affairs director for the Irrigation Association. With more than 10 years of experience in water policy and more than 15 years working in advocacy and public affairs, John’s expertise is closely aligned with issues affecting urban and rural water use. Prior to joining the IA in 2008, John was a special assistant to the United States Secretary of Commerce, serving as an associate director of the Secretary’s Office of Business Liaison, where he was an advisor to the Secretary on business issues ranging from manufacturing and trade to immigration reform. John began his career as an intern on Capitol Hill, working for Representatives Tom Bliley and Bill Goodling, before joining the American Academy of Dermatology’s Washington, D.C., office where he was hired to increase the Academy’s focus on political and grassroots involvement. As the IA’s government and public affairs director, John oversees the association’s federal, state, political and public affairs programs. John currently resides in Frederick, Maryland, with his wife Amy, sons Jack and Andy, and daughter Sally.

Brent, industry development director for the Irrigation Association, believes in promoting efficient irrigation to demonstration responsible stewardship for water resources. He has been very involved in developing irrigation best practices and then using them to help educate the numerous organizations he works with who develop codes and standards that affect the irrigation industry. In addition to his time with IA, Brent's career path includes owning and operating a landscape/irrigation contracting company and working as a water conservation specialist for a Colorado water agency focusing on landscape water management. He has co-authored many of the training manuals and books offered by the Irrigation Association, Brent believes in certification as a way to demonstrate competency and professionalism and is certified as an irrigation designer, auditor, water manager, contractor and agricultural irrigation specialist. He enjoys helping others find success in the irrigation industry.

Elizabeth serves as the senior policy and advocacy manager at the Irrigation Association. In this role, she monitors and advocates for policies and legislation that support the irrigation industry and works to engage stakeholders at all levels of government. Throughout her career in government relations, she has had the opportunity to focus on a wide-variety of policy issues. Elizabeth developed a passion for agriculture policy during her time at Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Her background also includes conducting research and policy analysis for state and local organizations. Elizabeth holds a Master of Public Policy Degree from George Mason University and a BA with honors in Political Science and with honors in Communication from the University of Cincinnati. She is passionate about data-driven policy.
